Hello! We are a group of teens who hope we can make an impact, no matter how small, on the lives of others. We heard about the opening of Daisy’s Home, Beijing’s first palliative care agency for children, and fell in love with their cause. The center serves as a safe haven for terminally ill children to learn, socialize, and live out the rest of their days with happiness and comfort. Doctor Zhou Xuan came up with the idea of creating the center as she had witnessed too many children suffering and dying painful deaths. She also explains, “Many parents told me that they could accept the fact that their children would not recover, but they could not stand seeing the kids afflicted by pain”. Such times will be devastating and heartbreaking for families, and centers like Daisy’s Home are a way to alleviate the pain for both the child and the parents. However, China has little end-of-life care and palliative care centers. There are even fewer that are specifically for children. Even worse, many centers, including the one in Beijing, are facing great financial pressure. They need more volunteers and donations. They need help; we can help.
